Greater Nevada Credit Union Facilitates $100,000 Grant for Reno Housing Authority’s Empowerment Program
Greater Nevada Credit Union (GNCU), in partnership with the Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco, proudly announced the awarding of a $100,000 AHEAD grant to the Reno Housing Authority (RHA). This grant supports RHA’s mission to provide low-income families with a stable foundation to pursue economic opportunities and improve their quality of life.
The grant will fund the expansion of RHA’s Start Smart Program, which integrates youth development and workforce empowerment initiatives into a cohesive system. Through workshops, training sessions, scholarships, and hands-on support, the program aims to build leadership, financial literacy, and academic skills for youth while promoting career readiness and economic independence for adult residents.
“Greater Nevada Credit Union is committed to fostering opportunities that uplift our community,” said Michelle Hale, Community Impact Manager, GNCU. “This partnership with RHA exemplifies how we can come together to empower individuals through financial education, and create long-term success for Northern Nevada families.”
RHA’s Impact
RHA serves as a cornerstone of the Northern Nevada community, providing housing and resources to low-income residents. The Start Smart Program is designed to help youth and adults navigate academic challenges, career pathways, and financial stability. The AHEAD grant will fund:
- Staff support to drive program effectiveness
- Workshops and training for skill-building
- Incentives and scholarships to sustain participant engagement
This collaboration underscores GNCU’s dedication to creating Greater Opportunities by enabling impactful partnerships that serve the community’s evolving needs.
Celebrating the Partnership
On November 18, 2024, GNCU and RHA hosted a check presentation ceremony to honor this milestone. Community leaders, program participants, and partners gathered to celebrate the grant and its potential to transform lives in Northern Nevada.
“These funds are going to help us expand our workforce development programs, serve more clients, and continue to provide opportunities through RHA’s programs” said Heidi McKendree, Deputy Executive Director, RHA.
