Volunteers needed for Special Olympics Summer Games in Reno
Greater Nevada has teamed up with Special Olympics Nevada to recruit volunteers for the
2008 Summer Games being held in Reno on June 7, 2008. During the Summer Games, over 400 athletes from all
over Nevada will come together at Reno High School and UNR to compete in aquatics and track & field.
You can help! More than 300 volunteers are needed to assist with activities such as
ushering and cheering-on athletes, handing out lunches, timing events, and much more. Various shifts are
available throughout the day. To sign up, or learn more about becoming a Special Olympics Summer Games
volunteer, contact Jeanne Dey, Greater Nevada Volunteer Coordinator, at 886-1451 or volunteer@gncu.net.
Special Olympics provides free year-round sports training and athletic competition in a
variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Special Olympics
athletes are presented with continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage,
experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families,
other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. Through their participation in Special Olympics,
athletes become better students, employees, and contributing members of society. For more information
